Beginning of School Parent Letter

Dear Parents,

Welcome to sixth grade! I am very excited to be your child’s Math and Science teacher this year. It is going to be a great year of learning and making new friends. I would like you to read through this letter to familiarize yourself with how I run my classroom. More information will follow at Back to School Night. Please sign and return the slip at the end of the letter. Please keep the rest of this letter to refer to throughout the year. If you have any questions feel free to contact me here at school by e-mail: helena_overholt@etiwanda.k12.ca.us or by phone 899-1704. The best time to reach me is between 9:35-10:25. Email is the quickest, easiest way to reach me.

Daily Schedule

I will be teaching Math to my homeroom students 1st period, and they will return to me for Science 7th period. My 2nd period Science class will return to me for math 4th period. Students will attend their P.E. and elective classes during 3rd and 6th period. The students that do not have Band will rotate every six weeks. This rotation is handled by computer selection rather than student choice. Please see your student’s Pride Planner for the bell schedule.

Absent/late work

Students who are absent are responsible for getting the work they missed. Absent work must be submitted in a timely manner

Students who choose not to turn in their work the day it is due, may choose to use one of their three homework passes or receive a zero. Late work is not accepted.

Test Corrections

Students who earn a grade below a “C” on tests and quizzes are expected to make corrections for an improved grade. In order to receive additional credit, students must follow the given procedures, which will be stapled to the front of any non-passing test. Students who miss a test or quiz due to an absence may see me to reschedule for full credit.

Homework

Monday through Thursday, you can expect your students to have math homework. Science homework will be assigned on an as-needed basis. Please check your child’s PRIDE planner or my website daily to check which assignments need to be completed. Each student is responsible for writing in their PRIDE planner and keeping track of the assignments. My homework is updated daily by 4:00 p.m. on my website. The address is: http://TeacherWeb.com/CA/SummitIntermediate/MrsBeitler . You can also reach my web page by accessing the school website at http://etiwanda.k12.ca.us/sis/sishome.htm.
