Quiz Friday, 2/22/13
7th Grade Reminders:
Dear Parents and Students,
This trimester is nearing the end. February 15, 2013 is the final day of second trimester. Please use these next few days to finish well. AR Reading has been part of the language arts program since August. Due to some unfortunate events in the fall, the AR policy in my classroom had changed. Students were told and made aware that they had to sign up with me to read a book (three per trimester) and then take and pass the AR comprehension quiz. As we near the final AR Cut-Off date, Friday February 8, 2013 it has come to my attention that some students have not followed the rules. I want to clarify that I have the sign up sheets and that credit will only be given for quizzes passed that are on the list. Taking quizzes for other students or having a friend tell you about their book and then taking the quiz is not acceptable. Students have been aware of this since November. If students have failed quizzes on books they signed up for, then it is their responsibility to let me know the name of the new book they are reading to fulfill the requirement of three chapter books read with passing quiz scores. The original AR cut-off date of February 8, 2013 is quickly approaching. I have met with students this past week, to let them know what they need to do to meet the requirements established by this Friday. Parents can also use the Home Connect information to check the results of these quizzes from home through the password and sign in log.Readingis essential to learning. This is very important.
Finally, starting February 5thstudents now mayonlytake AR quizzes in my room before/after school, during language arts or social studies class, and during lunch if I am in the classroom. Students will also be allowed to take quizzes during our library visits. We are scheduled to visit the library this Thursday, so be sure you are FINISHED with your current book so you may take a comprehension quiz during that time. If you need an extension it is your responsibility to contact me and discuss your request and how your needs can be accommodated. All of these efforts have been made to help you succeed in reading more, increasing vocabulary and ultimately gaining greater comprehension skills. On a lighter note, students can also have access to eBooks and audio books free of charge through the Etiwanda Library System. To access the Ebooks and audio books using the new Overdrive system, students must first contact Mrs. Claflin via email atlibrary@etiwanda.org. Please include the student’s name and school so your account can be activated and then use your AR user name and password to gain access. This will work on a variety of devices and can help students be even more excited about reading daily! Thank you for your continued support!
Sincerely,
Mrs.Schemenauer
