Accelerated Reader (AR) Information

All students will receive their AR level within the first month of school.
They are expected to read and test on at least one book every 5 weeks.
Their score on their AR test will be entered into their grade books as a
comprehension grade. Students may bring books from home or they may check
them out from the library. Students should have an AR book with them at
all times. They may test before school, during lunch, or after school.
Additionally, as time allows, I will have them test in class.

All tests must be taken by the dates listed below or they will be recorded
as a zero in the grade book. Students will receive the equivalent score
from their test to the grade book. I am striving for students to score at
least 85% averages for understanding on the tests. In my class, I don't
worry as much about accumulation of points, as I do that the students
develop an understanding of what they are reading. Reading simply to gain
points benefits no one.

Once your child has fulfilled the minimum requirements, he/she may take
additional tests. Students are able to go to the SIS library daily (before
school, during lunch, or after school) to select and check out a book at
their reading level. Our library has a large selection of play-a-ways the
students can check out, after returning a signed permission slip. This is
a nice change of pace for students as well as helpful for those that
reading is more of a challenge. The public library is a great resource as
well. To view a list of the AR tests available, click on the following
