Message from the Principal

I'd like to welcome you to Sun View School and thank you for taking time to explore Sun View as a school for your child. As Principal, I could not be more proud of our school, and I am honored to have the opportunity to be the Principal of a school that has been recognized by the state for the past three consecutive years as a High Achieving Title I School. It is the belief of Sun View School that students can and will excel in an environment that is tailored to their evolving needs. It is due to this belief that we have been able to successfully develop a comprehensive educational system that celebrates and promoted ethnic and cultural diversity, individuality, and emotional, intellectual, and social eminence. Sun View staff strives to provide students with not only the support and encouragement to succeed, but the means to do so as well. This collaborative effort has resulted in a schoolwide Academic Performance Index of 773.

Thank you for your time. I assure you that your child's experience at Sun View will be a successful, memorable, and enjoyable experience.

NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Pyramid of Success

This month’s Pyramid of Success character word is POISE. By reinforcing, discussing, and giving examples of the words in the Pyramid of Success at home your children will make real life connections about how each word is important in achieving their PERSONAL BEST and strive for success! Each week a selected class receives a model of the pyramid for demonstrating the principles of the PYRAMID. Sun View congratulates Mrs. Norton, Mrs. Haffner, Mrs. Newhall, and Mrs. Wheeler’s classes for demonstrating some of the pyramid’s characteristics during the month of April. POISE Just Be Yourself!

Patriotic / Flag Assemblies

Please stop by every Friday morning at 8:00 a.m. and join the students and staff of Sun View Elementary School gather for their special assembly to honor our flag, show our patriotism to our country, and show our school spirit. The flag salute is led by our student council members, facts about our country and flag are presented, school announcements are made, and a patriotic song is led by all of our Sun View students. We look forward to seeing you there!

Sun View Needs Parent Support

As you know each year our students are fortunate to have many opportunities outside the classroom setting. What you may not know is these opportunities are solely provided by the volunteers of our PTO. Each year the PTO plans fundraisers to help support our school and raise money for our students to participate in many extracurricular activities. The money raised by the PTO pays for our field trips, assemblies, and Sunny You books for each grade level at our school. Below you will see a list of some of the specific events that is paid for by our PTO. Field Trips and Assemblies That Are Paid for From PTO Funds: Golden View Farm, Centennial Farms, Tanaka Farms, Nutcracker Play, Discovery Science Center, Disneyland Band, Long Beach Aquarium, Mission San Juan Capistrano, Modjeska Canyon, Boomers, Principal’s Picnic, Imagination Machine, Attitude of Gratitude, Meet the Masters (Art Program), Sunny You Books. This year the cost for these events cost was $12,111.00. Without the PTO’s planning, organizing, and fundraising our students would not have these opportunities each year. For the 2009-2010 school year the PTO needs parents to be President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Press Secretary, EL Community Liaison, and Volunteer Coordinator. In addition, we also need a room parent/s for every classroom to help with the planning, communicating, and organizing with events. This year, nominations will be placed at our Open House on Wednesday, May 20, 2009 with voting to follow-up within the following weeks. The PTO is a critical component of the success of our school and without your help and support of these events our students will not have these extra opportunities. Please remember these events are NOT paid for by the school, the events are FUNDED by the PTO. Please help us by volunteering to be one of our PTO Board Members, room parent/s, or a volunteer for the 2009-2010 school year and nominate yourself or a friend at Open House.
