The Culminating Project for this unit allows you and your classmates to
act as griots (African storytellers) to tell a story that answers this
question: "What should most be remembered about the history of
sub-Saharan Africa?"
To do this, you will work in groups of four to create and perform a
four-part story about the geography of sub-Saharan Africa, empires of
West Africa, kindoms of central and southern Africa, and African
traditions.
As the griot in your grouopnarrates the tale, other group members must
use a variety of devices...visual aids, props, body movements, music,
puppets, symbols, audience participation...to add to the story.
To create your non-fictional tale of Africa's past, you will use materials
accumulated throughout the unit...original writings, visuals, historical
notes, video notes...and materials collected through additional
research.
