Science Syllabus

Overview: Seventh grade science consists of life science. This means that
you will be studying living organisms and how they work. We will learn about
cells, genetics, botany, evolution, classification, the human body, and family
life. Laboratory experiments, lectures, hands-on activities and discussions
will be used to explain and reinforce the general concepts and principles of
life science.

Class Expectations: Respect, responsibility, integrity, safety,
communication, organization and dignity are the “rules” of the class.
Students are expected to treat the teacher, each other, themselves and the
classroom with respect. Students are expected to be responsible for their
work and their actions. Students are expected to earn the trust of their
fellow students and the teacher by behaving appropriately and in class.
Students are expected to maintain their work in an organized binder and
communicate with others appropriately.

Student Agenda: All students are expected to follow the school guidelines in
the student agenda. Students are also expected to fill-in their homework
assignments for all classes every day. If no homework is assigned that day,
“none” should be written in the space provided for that class. Parents are
encouraged to use the agenda to stay informed about what their student is
doing in his/her classes. Students are expected to write a Daily Standard in
their agenda and credit will be given weekly.

Textbook: Science Explorer: Focus on Life Science

Late Work: “Life happens” to all of us, including students, therefore
students will be allowed to turn in work after the due date for up to half
credit. Group assignments and presentations will not be accepted late for any
credit.
Make-Up Work: Please refer to the school guidelines in the student agenda.
No make-up work is allowed if an absence is not cleared.

Grading: As our district is venturing into the world of standards-based
assessment and reporting, your flexibility and understanding are greatly
appreciated. Students will be receiving letter grades on their report cards
and on most of their assignments. In addition to academic achievement,
homework and personal responsibility will be included in the student’s overall
grade for the course.

General Procedures:
**Enter the room quietly and find your assigned seat. Please read the front
board for instructions which may vary from to day.

**Please sharpen your pencils prior to the beginning of class. You should
have a back-up pencil if yours breaks during class.

**You must have a valid pass to leave the room during class. Always check
with the teacher before leaving the room for any reason.

**Students should use the restroom before coming to class. If needed,
students should request to use the restroom at appropriate times during class.
Students must have a bathroom pass to use the bathroom during class. Be sure
to take bathroom pass to bathroom!

**Please report all breaks and spills to me immediately.

**If you have an agenda or Friday Progress Report to be signed, please leave
it on my desk at the beginning of class. I will fill it out during class and
get it back to you.
