What do I do if I don't understand an assignment? Ask Ms. Gill for help! If I need to continue on with the lesson, ask to see me afterschool when I can give you individual attention. If you can not stay afterschool, I will try to help you at lunch. 8th Grade Science contains many complex & abstract concepts. Homework is necessary to practice these concepts. Practicing these concepts will help you remember them for high school. Getting good grades in high school will help you get into a good college. Graduating from a good college will help you land a great job. You'll make loads of money at your great job........ and live happily ever after! Why do we do Math in Science class? Math is the scientist's most important tool. Physics and Chemistry require excellent math skills, including graphing. You can not avoid doing math in 8th Grade Science. Every single 8th Grade Science student in California should be using algebra in her / his Science class. The skills you learned in 6th & 7th grade math will be used in Science. If you have forgotten concepts, I suggest you spend some time reviewing. Basically, Math is important because of Science. But don't tell Ms. Walsh! What is the breakdown of grades? Category % Tests / Quizzes 40 Classwork 15 Homework 15 Parent signatures 10 Projects / Presentations 15 Participation 5 What is the policy for late work? You are allowed only 3 Late Homework Passes per semester. This only applies to assignments for which the answers have not been corrected in class. This is fair to the hardworking students that take responsibility for completing their homework. No work will be accepted the week before final grades are due. Go to the grades page; type in student's last name, then type in password. Password is student id (from card). |
