Yamaha - they make everything well.

Mouthpiece
Vincent Bach 7C (6th grade)
Vincent Bach 5C (7th grade)
Vincent Bach 3C (8th grade)
"What's the difference?" you ask.... The lower the number the larger the
cup. The 7C helps younger students build range (high notes). The lower
numbers help build a good, solid, strong tone. Older students are able to
maintain the high & low range while enhancing their overall sound.

For STRING PLAYERS, I recommend...

Hans Kroger - solid, long lasting, well-tuned instruments. Excellent quality
student cellos! (order through Southwest Strings)
Becker - R models made in Romania are pretty solid.

Bows
Bows are like cars. You've got your pinto to your BMW. Usually, a wood bow
with inlaid accents made in Europe is nice, but quite expensive. Always
test
it on your instrument. A really good bow can make your instrument sound
full, unless of course, your instrument in not a good quality instrument.
If
that is the case, there's no point in getting a nice bow for a cheap
instrument.

Strings
Dominant are the best quality. D'adarrio Prelude strings are a cheaper
alternative. AVOID Red Label (Super-Sensitive) - quality is inconsistant!

Shoulder Rest
KUN brand

All string players should have a pitch pipe to help them tune their own
instrument at home!
