Room 21 - Mrs. Benink’s Weekly Newsletter For the week of December 14 - 18, 2009 This Week's Tests and Quizzes: On Friday the students will be taking the following quizzes: - DLR quiz 14 - Math EDM Unit 5 - Heatwave reading comprehension and vocabulary quiz Language Arts: This week in class we'll be reading the final story in Theme 3. Heatwave is an amazing story about a wave of heat that rumbles through a small Kansas farm and wreaks great havoc. Theme 3 only contains 3 short stories so it will culminate right before our Winter Break. Math: Today in class we will continue our study of Unit 5. We will be taking the Unit 5 assessment on Friday. Double digit multiplication problems and place value will be the focus this week. In addition, your child should be studying their study guide for 20 minutes each night before the test. Practice makes progress. Our First Field Trip: Thank you for your prompt return of the field trip slips and money. The bus should leave around 8:30 am so please be prompt if you are a chaperone. Remember to pack a nutritious snack and lunch for your child. Just FYI... We will be having a book exchange on Friday of this week. Please refer to the directions at the end of this letter for the riddle that is to accompany your child's book (gift). Party will be held from 11:00 - 12:15. Lunch will not be necessary as we have a lovely brunch planned. Upcoming Dates: Continue to turn your November Reading Calendars in ASAP. Science Fair to take place February 18, 2010 Wednesday, 12/16 - Cookie Dough Fundraiser (Cookie dough and prizes delivered to Middle School gym for after school pickup) Winter Break: 12/19 - 01/03 Book Exchange "Riddle" Directions: Students should type a minimum of three clues. Sentences should include something about your personality, interests, physical appearance, etc. For example: * My first name has six letters. * I love to design and build wooden furniture. * I enjoy the outdoors and hiking with my dogs. * I like to sing and dance; especially when I am alone. * Can you guess who I am......?
