About The Teacher
I would like to welcome you and your child to the start of the new school year! I am pleased to have the opportunity to work with your family this year. My philosophy is that educating a child is a joint effort between parent, teacher, and student. I became a teacher for a number of reasons, the first being that I love children. I also value education and know that armed with knowledge and a good work ethic, a child is capable of so much more than we can imagine! I graduated from Azusa Pacific University and began teaching first grade in the Covina Valley Unified School District. After hearing so many wonderful things about this area I moved to the Conejo Valley and taught 4th Grade at Aspen Elementary School. A few years later I transferred to this beautiful school and have called Sycamore Canyon my home ever since. What a blessing it is to work with such amazing families, administrators, and staff in an innovative environment! I have high expectations for my students’ and myself. I strive to foster a “Can-Do” attitude in my classroom, and that students take responsibility and accountability in their daily personal challenges. I am passionate that all students feel valuable, capable, and become willing to risk in a challenging environment.

Mission
As we progress throughout the year we will be striving to become, wise just like an owl. Each student will certainly grow tremendously in reading fluency and comprehension, math computation and problem solving, organization and creativity in writing, gain a greater understanding of the world around us, as well as learn to be a scientific thinker. In addition, it is my desire to share the joy found in seeking and pursuing knowledge. Together we will take time to sit with and ponder concepts and situations so that we might gain a fuller, more complete understanding. So much can be gained from steady focus, and reflection. We have such a busy year ahead of us! I look forward to all the things to come, and know that we share the common goal to provide your child with the best education possible!
