We would rather be having fun...but homework is necessary to
successfully process and remember material. Duke University professor (and
homework expert) Harris Cooper writes that two hours a night (total) is best
for high school. Let me know if you are taking more time than that.
I write the assignments daily on my board. Do all the readings before lecture
to attain the best results.

I highly recommend the video/DVD How to Become a SuperStar Student by Tim
McGee. The course teaches study skills that will save students time and
achieves impressive results in both high school and college. I bought the
videos for my own children and watch the course with them. You can find the
course in the Teaching Company catalog: 1-800-832-2412 and www.teach12.com.
Occasionally you will also see it used (for half price) on eBay.
Two good review books for the AP exam:
Newman, John J and Schmalbach, John M. United States History: Preparing for
the Advanced Placement Examination, AMSCO
Epstein, Mark: Fast Track to a 5: Preparing for the AP United States History
Examination, McDougal Littell
