The following can be found in the handout section of this site:
1. Day-to-day agenda and HW - see calendars
2. Class guidelines and grading policies
3. SSR (Sustained Silent Reading) policy, due dates and instruction for
district mandated quarterly outside reading requirements.
4. Writing Guide - required to be printed and placed in the student's
English notebook for ongoing reference all year.
5. Research Paper - Sample Night - This collection of materials will be
used as a reference of instruction and work samples as we work on the
research paper. Students will be asked to pay $5.00 in late October/early
November for a hard copy of this packet.
6. Syllabus - The only unit NOT listed on the syllabus is the Greek and
Latin prefix/suffix/roots material. This will be ongoing and announced on
the calendars as we proceed into the year.
7. Junior student and parent letter regarding the research paper - please
make sure you read this carefully and understand how important it is for
overall success unique to the Junior English CP curriculum.
8. Turn-it-in.com class i.d. numbers. You must use this number to submit
all papers by the deadline date assigned.
To track your grade, see Zangle.
All HW assignments are due the following day they are assigned unless it is
specifically stated otherwise.
- Expect quizzes often. We correct them immediately after they are taken so
you will know your results. Unless you request a returned quiz, I will keep
it in the class file. Most quizzes are quick checks on the prior day's
HW.
- Vocabulary Policies - Students will be required to purchase a vocabulary
workbook from the student store for $12. The schedule for vocabulary all
year is that we complete the assigned week's unit exercises in class on
Mondays. Students must finish them independently if they do not finish them
during this class. They also need to see me before Friday if they have
questions. Each Friday students will be required to show me their completed
exercises to qualify to take the vocab quiz that day. Incomplete vocabulary
exercises result in the student not being able to take the weekly quiz and
therefore receiving a zero. Students caught copying answers for these
exercises will receive a zero and be reported for academic dishonecty. NOTE:
The only exception to this weekly vocabulary schedule is when we are not in
school on Monday or Friday. Students will be informed of adjustments ahead
of time if the calendar week is different.
- SSR mandatory paper - due dates 10/23, 1/15, 4/2, 6/4 See handout of
directions and policies for this district required assignment. No late work
will be accepted. Due dates are assigned the first day of the school year.
- An optional extra credit assigment will be offered quarterly prior to
quarter grade reports.
- Refer to class guidelines for absent policies regarding make-up work.
- Type your work unless told otherwise. Double-pace with the exception of
your SSR Quarterly paper.
