Per. 2 HW (ELD 2)

Oct. 14: Complete the Power Paragraph that we started in class. Be sure that you have 3 Concrete Details. Two of the C.D.'s will focus on why people become involved in drugs/alcohol and one of the C.D.'s will focus on a solution for avoiding becoming involved in drugs/alcohol. Use your notes (cluster) from class. This paragraph should be 11 sentences.

Oct. 10: Please write a sentence for each of the vocabulary words that will be on tomorrow's test (18).

Oct. 9: Read the article on "Stress" in Visions A on page 209 and write 15 bullet points. Next, using three concrete details from your bullets, write a Body Paragraph about Stress and include three Concrete Details. Your paragraph should have 11 sentences: 1 TS, 1 CD, 2 CM, 1 CD, 2 CM, 1 CD, 2 CM, 1 CS. : )

Oct. 3: Read "The Hero" by Stephen Crane and answer the Reading Comprehension Questions on page 114 of the handout and Exercises A & B. Also be sure you know the formula for the Body Paragraph, as tomorrow we will have a quiz on it. :   )

Oct. 2: Write a Body Paragraph about someone you know that you are grateful for and how specifically they have improved your life due to their kind actions and words. Follow the paragraph formula and label each sentence. :   )

Sep. 30: Read "Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes" on page 57 in Visions A and write 15 bullets of the most important key points.

Sep. 29: Write a Personal Narrative, similar to the one in Visions A on page 45. Provide information about yourself and use the same format as that found in "Turkish Delight."

Sep. 25: Activity Book - Visions A: Please complete pages 17, 18, and 20. Write complete sentences! :   )

Sep. 22: Write an Intro Paragraph which focuses on three of your best character qualities. Use this formula: 1) Background (3-4 sentences); 2) Hook; 3) Thesis (S & V & 3 main ideas. Each of these three main ideas will become the Topic Sentences in your homework for Period 1)

Sep. 17: Write a Topic Sentence, a Concrete Detail, and two sentences of Commentary for each of the following six prompts: 1) Is the current crime-rate in America high or low?; 2) Should teens have to wait till they are 18 to get a driver's license? 3) Should grades be given to assess student learning? 4) Do students get too much homework? 5) Should every individual go to college? 6) How can friends help you develop good character?

Sep. 15: Write a Topic Sentence and a Concrete Detail for each of the five prompts in the "Topic Sentence" handout.

Sep. 9: Visions A - Unit 1: Test. Please review your class notes. ALSO, if you did not complete the following exercises in class, complete them tonight: 1A, 2A & B, 3B, 4B, and 5.

Sep. 5: Using the vocabulary words taken from the Elements of Short Stories' worksheet, write out how each applicable word pertains to the short story "The Appointment with Love."
