| MATH I AND MATH II - SYLLABUS AND GRADING POLICY
Instructor: Mrs. Iva Kringle
Text Book: Prentice Hall – Math 1 or Math 2
Required Materials: You are responsible for coming to class prepared. Book,
paper, pencils, etc.
1. Red Pen – Red pens will be used everyday so it is in your best
interest to invest in more than one.
2. Many Pencils – work is not to be done in pen. (we all make mistakes,
and using a pen ends up with a very messy paper.)
3. During the second semester, you will also need a protractor and
compass.
4. Notebook paper
Note: Most of the time, calculators will not be allowed, however on some
lessons, we will be using them.
Suggested materials: a three-ring binder to keep all notes, homework,
quizzes, and previous tests. These will be an immense help when preparing
for tests.
Grades:
Homework 25%
Quizzes 20%
Tests: 45%
Participation 10%
Homework:
Homework is given just about everyday. Homework assignments are assigned to
develop a spectrum of skills and concepts. Each lesson is designed to
provide guided practice on a new skill or concept.
• All assigned work must be turned in
• You must write out all problems and show all work on your homework.
• Label each homework assignment in the upper
right hand corner with your name, the date, Pre-Algebra
and the Lesson number.
• Use an answer column on the right-hand side of your paper. Write
clearly, an answer that is not there or is too difficult to read will be
counted as incorrect.
• Number your work on your workspace so that it is easy to find and
read. Make sure to have space between problems.
• Homework is due at the beginning of the class period.
• Late work must be graded before you turn it in., If you are absent
or have a late assignment, it is your responsibility to come in at break to
grade your assignment before turning it in. Late homework will receive half
credit.
• No deduction will be taken from work missed during an excused
absence if it is turned in within the time allotted for students who are
absent as outlined in the Student Handbook.
• All homework is due before you leave if you have a pre-approved
absence.
• While there is no "extra credit" to raise your grade, you can
improve your grade by correctly redoing the problems you missed on any test
(be sure to show all your work, ) and resubmitting it. While there is
no "extra credit" to raise your grade, you can improve your grade by
correctly redoing the problems you missed on any test (be sure to show all
your work,) and resubmitting it. No credit will be given to corrected tests
that do not show how the problems were redone.
Quizzes:
Quizzes will be given several times through out each quarter. Some will be
announced and some will not. Often the quizzes will be made up of homework
problems. So, if you do your homework and understand the problems, these
will be some easy points :o)
Exams:
Exams will be given about every 2 weeks and will focus on the material in
the section of the book in which we are working.
Notes:
Notes are to be taken on new material.
At the beginning of each new section of notes, write the date and the lesson
that is covered.
Things to think about:
• All quizzes and exams will be completed without books or notes.
• Do not fall behind.
• Pre-read the lessons, take notes during class, study examples and
try every problem. When you do not understand a problem, get help.
• Behavior that hinders the learning process (i.e. talking,
disruptive, or not participating) for anyone is addressed in the following
sequence:
1) Warned 2) Call parents and after school with me 3) Detention
4) Mr. Hanson (Severity of offense dictates entrance of sequence)
