Rain, rain, go away! The kindergarten kids want to go out to play!

This month has just flown by, wet weather and all! We are thankful for the much needed water, but are
becoming restless inside each day!

This is a busy time of year for us as we are in the thick of teaching reading. Keep practicing...the kids
are really working hard and making lots of progress.

Looking ahead, we are just starting our "Sunshine and Raindrops" weather unit in language arts. In
social studies, we are finishing up learning about the national symbols and are moving on to California
symbols. In math, we are moving slowly into addition (number partners and five groups) and the teen
numbers. Keep encouraging your child to answer "How did you figure that out?" when working on math
concepts. Putting language into mathematical solutions really improves understanding. Finally, in
science, we will be starting our Wood Unit soon.

We have a field trip planned to Centennial Farm as a preview to our Farm unit (spring). Mark your
calendars for Tuesday, February 16th. LATER GATORS come to school 8:00-11:20 am. Weather
permitting. More info to follow. Look for it in the conduit.

Valentine's Day falls on a Sunday, so ask your child's teacher if/how the class will be celebrating.

There will be no school February 8th and 15th.
