Ms. Luke's Newsletter

December 8, 2009

Good Day everyone.

I’m sorry that I’ve been tardy about updating everyone.

It is very cold in my room. I have been telling students to wear warm
clothing and to bring coats! I’m always surprised at the end of the day how
many are left behind! Please superglue a sweatshirt, coat, warm pants to your
child!

The monthly projects are due a week from Wednesday (December 16th). If
students want to turn it in earlier, that would be great! The presentation
portion of the project is to show their postcard of the National Park or
Monument in which the student “visited”. They need to explain the historical
significance, geography of the area (using the 5 themes of geography) and any
other interesting information. The presentation should be about three to five
minutes. I will start presentations next Monday (12/14) but the journal need
not be turned in until Wednesday.

We are continuing with our in-class projects this week: Organizational skills
in writing and Discovery colonization simulation. All this work will be done
during class time. The writing is due on Thursday. There are additional small
components to the Discovery colonization simulation – mainly diary entries.
The first one is due tomorrow. In math we are working on area, perimeter and
volume. A test in Math will be next Wednesday or Thursday. Heads up, this
math test is hard and students really need to read the directions – something
I have been working on since the beginning of school.

We are doing fencing Thursday afternoon. Make sure you child wears tennis
shoes since they are working in the MPR and the floor is a bit slippery.

Finally, I will be doing lots of grading during winter break so progress
reports will go out the end of the first week in January. If you have any
questions, feel free to contact me.
