Dear Families,
Welcome to second grade, room 24. My name is Mrs. Hall and I am excited to be your child's
second grade teacher. I have been teaching for many years, I love teaching at Vine and being apart
of the supportive Vine Community.
Through my education and experience I have come to believe that growth is a dynamic and
life-long process. My mission this year is to offer students a comfortable, safe environment
for them to learn and grow. I will cover the California State Standards for second grade while
striving to motivate all students. I will expect all students to give their best effort, and to
respect one another for their differences as well as their similarities.
Your Second Grader
Is your child exhibiting "normal behavior" for his or her age level? Look over these general
behaviors provided by Family Education and the American School Counselor Association.
Is your 7 or 8 year old on track? Below are some general development milestones to help you
understand your child's progress over the school year. Keep in mind that every child is
different and may not fit perfectly into this framework.
Where Are Second Graders?
At 7 and 8 years old, kids begin to calm down a bit.
*Begin to reason and concentrate.
*Worry, are self-critical and may express a lack of confidence.
*Demand more of their teacher's time.
*Dislike being singled out, even for praise.
Where are Second Graders Going?
School isn't just academics. Your child's teacher is also helping him or her grow socially.
At this age, your child is continuing to learn about themselves and others. You can help by
encouraging as your child:
*Develops a concept of himself or herself.
*Begins to understand others.
*Gains respect for others.
*Builds relationships with others
*Develops a sense of responsibility.
