OFF CAMPUS CREDIT

 

Off Campus Credit Forms

  1. Students must complete an "Off Campus Credit Form" prior to taking an off campus class from an accredited institution to receive credit for the class in the Vista Unified School District. This form may be obtained from a counselor.
  2. 9th – 11th graders must be enrolled in 6 high school classes on campus for the entire year. Seniors must be enrolled in at least 5 high school classes on campus for the entire year assuming they are credit-current.
  3. No credit shall be given for any work completed outside the jurisdiction of the Vista Unified School District except as outlined below.

Off Campus Courses

District guidelines allow a student to take up to 50 credits in off campus courses (maximum 30 non-college and 20 college level) during the student’s four years of high school. Students must receive prior approval by using the Off Campus Credit Form. Unless otherwise authorized by the school administration, off campus courses should be limited to one per core subject area. Note: All students must enroll in English 11, English 12 and American Government/Economics on campus.

College Credit for High School Diploma

College or university courses may be taken for high school credit if prior permission is received using the Off Campus Credit Form. Arrangement to apply this credit toward high school graduation must be made prior to the first meeting of the course, and following the stipulations apply:

    • Students may apply a maximum of twenty (20) high school credits from college courses toward high school graduation. In addition to these twenty (20) credits, students may repeat a class which has been attempted and failed at the high school level.
    • It is the responsibility of students who wish to apply college credit toward high school graduation requirements to see that their transcript is forwarded to the high school registrar in a timely manner.
    • Students who attend classes provided by a college will be allowed high school credit according to the following scale:
    1. College classes designated as "CSU/UC transferable," typically "100" or greater level equal
    2. 3.3 high school credits per college unit (maximum 10 credits per course)

    3. College classes below the "100" level or "Non-CSU/UC transferable" classes:

College Credits Equivalent High School Credits

1 credit* no credit

2 or 3 credits 5 credits

4 or 5 credits 10 credits

*Students who receive 1 or 1.5 college credits for physical education will receive 2.5 high school credits in physical education. Prior administrative approval required.
