What are SAT Subject Tests?

One hour subject exams required by UC and selected private colleges.  See 
www.collegeboard.com.  UC requires 2 Subject Tests in 2 different areas. UC 
will not accept the Math Level 1 Subject test; they will only accept the 
level 2.  Some selective private schools require 3 Subject Tests.

When should I take SAT Subject Test?

When you complete that course and may not take another course in the same 
subject.  Example:  Consider taking the Biology SAT Subject Test if you are 
taking Chemistry next.

How do I see my counselor?

Stop by the counseling office and request an appointment from the counseling 
secretary.  We will give you a slip with a date and time on it.  
Additionally, we are available on a walk-in basis during most student 
lunches and during most ELPs.

What is the best way to contact a teacher?

Either by phone (760) 726-5611 or by email (first letter of first name 
followed by next 7 letters in last name @vusd.k12.ca.us)  Example:

When is the last date to change a class?

No later than the first 2 weeks of each semester.  Dropping a class after 6 
weeks results in an FW (F Withdrawal)

When is the latest to withdraw from a class without an FW penalty?

Before the end of the first 6 week grades in each semester.

What is the CAHSEE?

The California High School Exit Exam is part of the graduation requirement.  
Students must pass the test in both English/Language Arts and Math.  
Students are tested in the spring of their sophomore year and retested on 
later dates if needed.

What is the high school math requirment?

30 units (3 years) including at least 10 credits in Algebra 1B and 10 
credits in geometry/geo-trig or math essentials.  Much more is required for 
college admissions!

Which is better to take? The SAT 1 or the ACT?

I advise students to take both exams.  Almost all colleges accept either 
exam.  Double your chances of doing well!  Sign up at www.collegeboard.com 
and www.actstudent.org

How does a parent schedule a conference with their student's counselor?

Call Gennie at 726-5611, ext. 71026 and she will set it up for you.  I 
perfer that the student also be present at the conference.

What is AB 1802?

Assembly Bill 1802 requires the counselor to complete an "Academic Review" 
with each 10, 11 and 12th grader.  A copy of this is mailed home to the 
parent. At-risk students are required to have a student/parent/counselor 
conference.

When will summer school applications be available?

Mid April.  There will be 2 15-day sessions.  Students can earn 
up to 10 credits total.
