9th Grade Checklist

                         9th Grade Checklist

_____ Attend school every day possible. Everyday counts!

_____ Earn the best grades possible. 9th grade is your foundation for the
rest of high school!

_____ You will also need to pass the California High School Exit Exam
(CAHSEE). Of your 30 units of math required, at least one year must be
Geometry or Math Essentials and one year must be Algebra 1B.

_____ Use ELP to your greatest advantage. See teachers for extra help when
needed, make up that quiz, etc.

_____ Get involved! You will enjoy high school more and do better in
school if you get involved in some group or activity. There is something
for everyone at VHS!

_____ Learn to manage your time well. Using your daily planner is a great
way to get organized. This is even more important with block scheduling!

_____ Use weekly progress reports if needed to keep track of your grades.

_____ Start keeping a resume of activities, community service, awards, etc.

_____ If you earn any Ds or Fs at semester, go to summer school to make up
your credits and/or improve your grades. You shouldn't go to the next level
of a class in math and foreign language unless you have at least a C in your
current class. Also, four-year colleges do not accept Ds or Fs!

_____ Make sure to dress out for PE! Non-suits will end up in a failing PE
grade.

_____ If you need extra tutoring:

- See your teacher during ELP
- See counseling office secretary for list of CSF tutors
- Ask about our free after-school tutoring program!

_____ If you are having a conflict with another student, ask any adult
about our Conflict Resolution Program.

_____ If you want to go to college, there is a place for you!
www.csumentor.edu is a great website for college planning.
