Courses are awarded five credits per course passed each semester. Students
must earn a minimum of 230 credits to graduate. The grade point average
(GPA) on all credits counted toward graduation shall not be less than 2.00
on a 4.0 scale. Special Notes:
� Students are required to pass a California High School Exam for graduation
in both English and Math.
�All students must pass Algebra 1 and 10 of the 30 units of Math
must include Geometry, Honors Geo/Trig or Essential Math.
Normal progress toward graduation is defined as accumulating a minimum of 60
credits by the beginning of the sophomore year, 120 credits by the beginning
of the junior year, and at least 170 credits by the beginning of the senior
year.
Credit Restrictions:
* Credit which may be used toward graduation are limited in the
courses listed below:
Physical Education 40 credits
Teacher Aide/Office Aide 10 credits
Student Tutor 10 credits
Marching/Concert Band 80 credits
Work Experience 20 credits
� No more than 35 credits may be earned in any semester from any
combination of high school, college, adult education courses, or work
experience without PRIOR written permission from an administrator.
� Students repeating a class that was previously passed will receive
the highest grade, but will not be given duplicate credit.
� Students wishing to take ANY course off campus (not affiliated with
VUSD) must obtain PRIOR written approval by both their counselor and an
assistant principal. Go to the counseling office to obtain required form.
Of the credits counted toward graduation, no more than 50 may come from a
school or program off campus. Of the 50 credits, 20 credits may come from
community college and 30 may come from another accredited institution. In
addition, no more than one course from any department, i.e., English, Social
Studies, Math, etc. may be taken off campus. Only credit from accredited
institutions will be accepted. See counselor for explanation of credits for
courses taken at community college. The required form is available in the
Counseling Office and in the Course Description Booklet.
