The Weibel
PTO collects cell phones again this year and small electronic devices. Not only will we be raising funds for Weibel
but we will keep this hazardous waste out of our landfills and water
supply. Program proceeds will benefit Weibel PTO…our
kids. We can accept & recycle the following items:
NOTE: For larger items please contact Jannet Benz (651-8549) to make
arrangements so we don’t clutter up the school office. Eco Phones will pay Weibel
PTO something for every item - working or not! Visit www.EcoPhones.com
for details on items you are donating. PLEASE RECYCLE BY
DEPOSITING any items listed above IN THE SCHOOL OFFICE – IN THE BOX LABELED
“CELL PHONES -- RECYCLING” We
will accept all items listed, working or not.
You may deposit your phones, etc., your neighbors, your company’s… Please
DO NOT deposit chargers, cases, ear pieces, accessories. These have no value and do not contain
hazardous materials. Earnings
example: On average Weibel will earn
about $3.00 per cell phone, although, we can earn up to $300 per phone
depending on the phone model and if the phone is in working order. See
details of the program on our PTO website at: For
price details visit: http://www.ecophones.com/documents/pricelist.pdf
Your
donation may be tax deductible. Receipts
will be available at the recycling box. Please
consult with your tax advisor to determine tax deductibility of your donation. Why it’s important to
recycle our Cell Phones: - On average Americans replace their cell
phones every 12 months. - Over 65 million cellular phones are
stockpiled in U.S. households creating 30,000 tons of potentially hazardous
waste. - Cell phones contain toxic substances
including Arsenic, Antimony, Beryllium, Cadmium, Copper, Lead, Nickel and Zinc
which leach into soil and groundwater from landfills and form highly toxic
dioxins & furans during incineration. These toxins
have been associated with cancer and a range of reproductive, neurological and
developmental disorders. The cadmium
from a single phone is capable of polluting 158,200 gallons of water. (That’s 2.4 million 8-ounce sodas!) Let’s keep all of this hazardous waste
out of our water supply. It all begins
with us. |
