President’s Message

Seasons greetings!  I hope everyone is happy and healthy.  I know we all are ready for a break!

December is a busy time at Weibel!  We had the Book Fair, Sweet Tomatoes Fundraising Nights, the Holiday Shopper days for the kids returned this year, and we had the Holiday Scrip sales.  Thank you to coordinators Vindya Reddy, Deepinder Chahal, Kavya Muthanna, Fahria Khan and ALL of the volunteers who helped make these events possible.

At the PTO meeting on December 9, we approved a Technology Budget for the year and also funds for the Family Math Night that will be held in mid-February.  We began talking about having an Internet Safety assembly for the upper grades as well as a parent education night on the topic.  I also gave a brief overview of the FUSD Budget discussion I attended on December 8 at the PTA Council Meeting at District HQ.  Depending on whether the Governor’s plan is approved, the district is preparing to have to find ways to cut an estimated $10-20 million out of the $270 million FUSD budget.  They are making an effort to have as many meetings as possible to make the public aware of the situation.  In fact, there will be another meeting at 7 p.m. on January 15, 2009.  The location has not yet been determined

Another thing we discussed at the December PTO meeting is the fact that we need more volunteers for Safety Patrol/Valet Service.  I must say that this is one area that Weibel families really need to show some improvement!  People need to be more courteous and not think that they are the only ones in a hurry.  It’s become clear that the Weibel Traffic/Safety Rules need to be reiterated.  Look for Safety Rules coming home in the Wildcat Folder sometime in January.  Thank you to Anita Bolinjkar, Rob Chan and Susan Wang for working with Mrs. Johnson to jumpstart the improvement of Weibel’s traffic situation.

A fun event coming up in January is our Round Table Pizza Night which happens to be on January 20, 2009 – INAUGURATION DAY!

Keep involved in what’s going on in our city by attending the FUSD discussion on finances on January 15.  And, keep informed with what’s going on with the A’s situation by signing up to receive information about upcoming meetings by sending your email address to ballparkvillage@ci.fremont.ca.us. The A’s have stated that they are willing to meeting with the community to discuss our concerns.  We will keep you posted.  And, always, always, always read the Weibel Newsflash (Thanks, Selina!)

The next PTO Meeting is on Tuesday, January 13, 2009, at 7:00 p.m.

Best wishes to everyone!  Have a relaxing and safe Winter Break!

Round Table Pizza PTO Fundraiser

Celebrate the President’s inauguration with your friends and family at Round Table Pizza while helping Weibel PTO to raise funds!  Weibel PTO will hold a fundraiser from 5pm-9pm on 1/20/09 (Tue) at Round Table Pizza, located at 46600 Mission Boulevard in Franciscan Center (where Safeway is).  Round Table Pizza will give Weibel PTO 50% of its above average sales.  You can dine-in or carry-out.  You don’t need to bring a flyer and you can still use any Round Table Pizza coupons.  It is as simple as it can be!  Tell your friends and neighbors to support the event!  Come to enjoy a delicious pizza dinner with your friends and family and meet and chat with other Weibel families on president inauguration day!  Busy? Phone in ahead at (510)490-0440 and pick up your pizzas later! (Sorry the delivery doesn’t count towards the fundraiser.)  It is only one night (from 5pm to 9pm) so don’t miss out the fun while helping Weibel PTO to raise the money.  Please contact Kathy Chang (Kathy.chang@comcast.net or 510-353-1428) if you have any questions.

F.A.M.E (Fine Arts Mini Experience)

Happy New Year Weibel! This month in FAME we will be learning about the Spanish artist Francisco Goya and the Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg. Goya was a court painter and one of the first modernist painters to break with traditional styles of painting. We will discuss his painting “Maja Clothed”. Students will learn about real and painted texture and learn what is an Odalisque pose. We will also listen to Grieg’s “Anitra’s Dance” and learn how its harmony is enhanced by its staccato and legato style. Students will become acquainted with the life of Grieg and his efforts to compose music exemplifying his native Norway.

FAME lessons will be January 14th, 15th and 16th.

If you are interested in participating in the FAME program, or would like to learn more about FAME, please contact Melissa Muldoon at 510-353-9200 or by email at: Melissa@melissadesign.com
