Discuss story -- on Monday bring just the exposition (the first paragraph) of the story on a single sheet of paper.
You should have saved this assignment to your hard drive.  Get in the habit of saving everything you create so you don't have to retype papers.  Do not delete any part of the story.  You will need it later for another project.  Cut and past the top part of your paper all the way to the final sentence of the first paragraph onto another document and then print that.  You may write a different story and use the new exposition for Monday's project if you want.  You must fix problems in the first story if you do not choose to rewrite the entire story.  The single paragraph (exposition) you bring on Monday will be read by others.

SAMPLE:  Yellow = the 4-5 sentences / Blue = the transition / Purple = the thesis statement
Daydreams provide hours of entertainment for children.  They like to envision themselves doing amazing things, like rescuing someone from a burning building, winning a gold medal at the olympics, or signing a hugely lucrative record contract.  Most children dream about accomplishments that will most likely never occur, but such dreams give way to smaller goals.  Adults probably have more realistic daydreams and ponder graduation day or landing a wonderful job.  They might even dream about getting married and having a family.   Daydreams exist for many people of all ages, but they also provide excellent material for stories.  James Thurber's "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" offers humor in his main character's mishaps.  Although Mitty's foibles provide entertainment, he should certainly have learned by now how to be more responsible.

Discuss Story: show not tell and dialogue
Revised story due Wed. with 4 Show not Tell and 6 pieces of dialogue -- Do not highlight anything on the next draft.
Remember that a "tell" is when you tell what emotion someone is feeling.
     "She felt angry."
A "show" is where you use description to show that emotion instead of just telling what that character is feeling.
"She clenched her teeth and tightly folded her arms across her chest."
If you have some "tells," change them so that you show the emotion.
If you don't ever mention how anyone feels, add those descriptions until you have at least 4.
Also, make sure you have 6 pieces of dialogue.  Follow the dialogue structure in the paper we practiced.
