Message from the Principal
Westmont was named a California Title I Achieving School in 2009 and a California Distinguished School in 2004! These recognitions could not have happened without the unending support and incredible commitment of our Westmont parents, staff, and students.
Westmont's modernization was completed the 2007-'08 school year. All classrooms have air-conditioning and are fully networked.
Westmont is a Title I school with a wonderfully diverse population. We have many special programs to meet the needs of our students including Early Reading Intervention, Read 180, Read Naturally, Re-Read Partners, Language!, High Point, English Now!, after school Kaleidoscope, after school tutoring, Adult Education to learn English, Art Masters, Sparks Physical Education, Counseling, Music, Study Buddies, and Student Council.

GOLDEN BELL AWARD
Westmont received the "Golden Bell Award" from the California School Boards Association in December 2007. The recognition was in the area of instruction based on Westmont's unique instructional flexible groupings for language arts in grades 1-5. Westmont accesses support personnel to assist in providing language arts instruction based on student needs. This allows for smaller teacher/student ratios which benefits all students but particularly those at-risk. Our test scores demonstrate the success of this instructional approach.

WESTMONT A TOP
Westmont scored a "10" (on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being highest) the recently released State API 2009 comparisons of similiar schools, those with similar student demographics. Westmont had also scored a "10" for similar school comparisions in 2008. Way to go, Westmont!

OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS TO EDUCATION AWARD
Congratulations to Lynn DeWilde who received the Orange County recognition for "Outstanding Contributions to Education" Award. Lynn has volunteered incalculable hours volunteering at Westmont. Since her youngest daughter is now moving on to middle school, this is Lynn's last year with Westmont. Lynn will be missed. We thank her for all she has done for the benefit of our Westmont students over the years!

Title I Achieving School 2009
Westmont was recognized as a California Title I Achieving School in April 2009. Title I schools are schools with a large number of socio-economically disadvantaged students. To receive this recognition, Title I students at the school must have improved their State test scores for two years in a row at a level of at least twice the State target.
