Mrs. Lock's Favorite Book and Library Websites
The following links will take you to some of the reading-related
websites that I visit the most often. You'll find everything from Newbery
and Caldecott winners lists to lists of books that can help children deal
with tough times.
I try to keep the links on this page as current as possible, but if you find
a link that no longer works, please let me know by emailing me using the
mailbox icon at the top right-hand corner of my library homepage. Thanks,
and happy reading!

Great Books For Beginning Readers
This booklist, compiled after Hurricane Katrina by Gale
Crisswell, a Louisiana librarian, contains a wealth of great
titles for helping children come to terms with a variety of
difficult events - from moving and making new friends, to the
death of a loved one or a pet. The links at the bottom of the

Create your own customized book list! - Wow, I just
discovered this amazing site put together by Librarian Lisa
Bartle! I entered some interest/search criteria (set in Medieval
England, female main character, suitable for a 10-12 year old
reader), and within seconds, got a list of 7 great titles, all
award-winners. You can enter whatever search criteria you'd
like. This is a GREAT resource for any reader or parent!

International Children's Digital Library
Loss is a part of life that can be difficult to explain to
children. I'm often asked by parents or staff members if there
are any books I would recommend for someone to use with a child
who has experienced the loss of a loved one, friend, or even a
pet. The Co-operative Children's Book Center at the University
of Wisconsin-Madison has a resource list that I provide. A link
to it is below.
