2009/2010 REGULAR History Class Guidelines and Regulations

KEEP THESE RULES IN YOUR NOTEBOOK AT ALL TIMES!

 

What are the 7 BASIC rules that I must follow in order to do well?

1.  You are TARDY if you are not in your assigned seat when the bell starts to ring!

2.  Food, drinks, candy or gum are not permitted.

3.  Remain in your seat until the teacher gives you permission to leave.

4.  Electronic devices MUST BE OFF AND   IN   LOCKERS during class and school time.

5.  Students willrespect the rights and property of others.

6.  Raise your hand if you have a question or a comment.  DO NOT SHOUT OUT!

7.  You are responsible to have materials in class everyday!

     (2 Pens, 2 pencils, paper, book, notebook, and Binder Reminder)

"No student has the right to interfere with another students learning"

 

What if I am TARDY to class?

WilsonMiddle School has a policy on tardiness:

                                                            2 tardies     = S in citizenship

                                                            3 tardies     = N in citizenship

                                                            4 tardies     = U in citizenship

·         After the 3rd tardy, you will be warned that it is your 3rd tardy.

·         After the 4th tardy, 30 minutes of detention will be assigned for each tardy.

·         Serving detention DOES NOT erase your tardy from the record.

 

Am I allowed to chew GUM in class?

WilsonMiddle School has a policy on gum.  Gum is not permitted at any time on the campus.  Students will earn a “U” in citizenship (per school policy) on the third violation.  ATS can be assigned for further violations.  Please DO NOT make gum an issue.

 

How will my GRADE be determined?

Grades will be done on a cumulative point basis.  Points will be given for each assignment and will be tallied and the end of each grading period.  (See below the “Definition of Grades”)

                                                                    90% and above         = A

                                                                    80% - 89%               = B

                                                                    70% - 79%               = C

                                                                    60% - 69%               = D

                                                                    59% and below         = F

You may check your progress at any time with the teacher.

 

How do I handle my HOMEWORK responsibilities?

·         Everyone MUST turn in all assignments.  Work must be turned in on the date that it is due in order to receive full credit. 

·         Late work will be accepted only one day late for 1/2 credit.

·         Detention will be assigned for failure of being responsible!

What should I do if I am ever ABSENT from Mr. Kohlmeier’s class?

·         If you are returning from an excused absence, it is your responsibility to check with the teacher to see what you have missed.

·         For absences of 1 day, all work will be due on the day following the students return.

·         For absences of 2 days or longer, students will be responsible to set up a timetable with the teacher for the return of the work.

·         **TESTS AND QUIZZES - If you are absent on the day of a test or quiz, you will have a maximum time of 1 week for the date given to make-up the Test/Quiz.  (same test/quiz may not be given)

·         *****It is your responsibility to turn in the work to the teacher.  If you fail to turn it in, it will go down as a 0, and you will be deducted the total amount of the points from your overall grade.

·         Test/Quiz make-up and assigned detentions will be before school at 7:15 am.  You may also seek extra help at that time.

 

What is the criteria for my CITIZENSHIP Grade?

            There are 4 “Citizenship Grades” that can be earned.  They are 0, S, N, U.

 

·         O- Outstanding.  Student is on time to class everyday.  Does not break classroom or school rules.  Is an active participant in a positive way during class time.  High level of cooperation with teacher and fellow students.  Effort is above and beyond basic expectation. 

·         S- Satisfactory.  Student has two unexcused tardies to class.  Does not break classroom or school rules most of the time.  Is an active participant in a positive way during class time most of the time.  Cooperates with teacher and fellow students most of the time.  Meets expectations most of the time. 

·         N- Needs Improvement.  Student has three unexcused tardies to class.  Has a tendency to break classroom rules and school rules.  Has a tendency to disrupt the teacher or fellow class members during class time.  Does not work cooperatively with fellow class members most of the time.

·         U- Unsatisfactory.  Student has four or more unexcused tardies to class.  Student has a difficult time following class rules and school rules all the time.  Student has a difficult time functioning as a student in regular classroom setting all the time.  Need frequent reminding by the teacher.

 

How should my HISTORY NOTEBOOK look?

·         You must keep a History Notebook. 

·         A 3 ringed binder is required.

·         The rules of the class must be on top. 

·         All notes, papers, and tests done in and out of class must be kept, in order, in this notebook.

·         The notebook is subject to a notebook check at anytime!

·         Please keep all papers neat and orderly.

 

 

 

 

 

Definition of Grades

Mr. Kohlmeier –United States History

 

 

A: 90-100% Excellent Achievement – The student scores an average of 90-100% on all assignments and tests.  Student always does complete creative work with outstanding quality.  Student consistently has a high degree of participation combined with an inquiring attitude.

 

B: 80-89% Good Achievement – The student scores an average of 80-89% on all assignments and tests.  Student does neat, accurate, and organized work.  Student usually has a high degree of participation.

 

C: 70-79% Satisfactory Achievement – The student scores an average of 70-79% on all assignments and tests.  Student makes a genuine effort to learn the important points in daily lessons.  Student assumes some responsibility toward study, some class participation, and at times needs considerable direction from the teacher.

 

D: 60-69% Minimum Achievement –The student scores an average of 60-69% on all assignments and tests.  Attention in class is usually distracted.  Work is usually inadequate or poorly done.  Seldom exhibits any interest in the course of study.  Does just enough to “get by”.

 

F: Below 59% Failure – The student scores below a 59% average on all assignments and tests.  Student fails to meet the minimum standards of the class.  Students fails to turn in homework and glasswork.  Not working at ability.

 

The following are the expectations for all History Students:

1.      Apply and explain History standards and concepts

2.      Organization and interpretation of information.

3.      Completion of class work, homework, projects and tests.

4.      Participation in a responsible, positive manner

5.      Demonstrate reading, writing, and vocabulary skills.
