I have been educating students for the past 15 years. At the present time I
am teaching third grade at Joseph Sims Elementary School in the Elk Grove
Unified School District. The California standards are the foundation of my
program, and I teach them with high expectations for behavior and
achievement. My philosophy of education is that every child can learn when
provided with an environment that is structured, optimally challenging, and
nurturing.
My leadership experience is extensive. I am a Trainer of Trainers, which
means I am highly trained to teach core curriculum using diverse
instructional strategies and am then responsible for the in-service of these
strategies at my school site. I am also a master teacher for student interns
entering our profession, a BTSA Consulting Teacher, and a Teacher in Charge
(acting administrator). My leadership experiences also include the creation
and implementation of a grade level musical and the development of a student
government program.
My classroom experience includes everything from teaching in Title 1 schools
to California Distinguished Schools, from a class with three Level 1 English
language learners to a class with ten identified GATE students, from the
full inclusion of a student in a wheel chair to the education of a child
with extreme behavioral issues. My varied experience has prepared me for
whatever challenges and opportunities lie ahead of me.
Outside of school, I enjoy traveling, spending time with my husband, three
year old daughter and new baby boy, and running. I also love taking my two
dogs, Bosco and Colby, to Folsom Lake, which is walking distance from our
home in El Dorado Hills.
