Newsletter # 6, November 6, 2009
Reading:
We're currently on Unit Two, Ancient Civilizations. In this Unit,
students will become acquainted with ancient civilizations, archaeologists,
and anthropologists. We read "The People on the Beach" this week.
Math:
We are on Chapter Six, Positive and Negative Numbers. Please check your
child's Friday Folder to see how they did on the Chapter Five test. If your
child did well on the test, I recorded their score in the gradebook for
Trimester two. However, if their test score would not improve their overall
grade, I did not record their score in the gradebook.
Spelling/Writing:
We take a spelling pretest every Monday. Students learn and take notes on
the spelling pattern and are given worksheets to increase their
understanding of it. Please check your child's Friday Folder to see
how they did on their Spelling test.
We're currently working on a compare and contrast paper. The class selected
two topics and we listed the similarities and differences of each. Students
will begin to organize their paper and begin a rough draft next week.
Social Studies/Science:
Science journals from Mission Springs were collected this week.
Notes from Mr. Wandell
It's been a busy couple of weeks!
I hope your child had a great time at Mission Springs! Thank you to Gina
Montanez for being a parent chaperone. Without the support and help from
parent chaperones, the trip would not be as well run as it was.
Report Cards were distributed on Monday. Please be sure to contact me if you
have any questions or concerns! The best way to get in touch with me is e-
mail. Your child is in the process of writing and reflecting on trimester
one goals. Please encourage your child to do their personal best, talk to
them about goals, and support him/her the best you can.
