This is a brand new class and it is designed for intermediate/advanced
students who want to perform. our first event was the Drama Teachers
Association of Southern California Competition in Palos Verdes. Over 35
schools attended. Students in the class competed in Division B, which was
against other 8th graders and high schools! Both teams placed and won
trophy's!
Madison Grimmet and Bella Trent took 3rd place in their scene for Social
Change. They performed a scene from The Childrens Hour by Lillian Helman.
Ten 8th grade students won 5th place in the Musical Theater Category for
their performance of HAIR. Shamari Berkley, Megan Leach, Madison Van Sickle,
Kylee Russell, Jessica Sportelli, Jessica Rubin, Brooke Dugan, Paolo Garcia,
Jesse Muns & Shelly Rosenblatt performed.
Congratulations to both groups! The following 7th graders were chosen to go
on Touring Turtles:
Sydney Jaro & Karina Kumar are singing LIGHT ON accompianed by Brianna Chavez
& Jyneese Henderson dancing. Brianna & Jyneese choreographed the dance with
the assistance of some of the 8th grade dance academy students in this class.
Mia Cardenas, Jyneese Henderson, Simona Kocheryan and Cassey Mendez are also
singing HALO for this tour.
Touring Turtles is a group of students from Millikan representing the
different arts classes offered here. Costume Design, Musical Theatre, Drama
Production, Strings, Afro-Carribean Drummers, Band, Stagecraft, Choir and
Dance students travel by bus to elementary schools and perform.
Upcoming performances from this class will happen at Winterfest, Student
Voices, Open House and the D.T.A.S.C. Shakespeare Competition.
