Elegant Evening Auditions are right around the corner!
It's not too early to begin thinking about trying out for our annual "Elegant Evening of the Arts" program. This year the program will be held on March 25th, 2010, a month earlier than in previous years. Auditions for Elegant Evening are scheduled for Monday, February 22, 2010. We will be choosing performers in the areas of vocal, instrumental, combination of vocal & instrumental, dance, and new this year - oral language (either solo or duo). All performances should be no more than 3-4 minutes in length and selections should be appropriate for an "elegant" performance. Start working on your performance selection now and plan on signing up for auditions at the beginning of February. For any questions, you may e-mail Mrs. Hayes at charlotteswebagain@yahoo.com.
New Beginning Guitar Class Starting
A new beginning guitar class will start on Wednesday, January 13th, 2010, for students ages 8 and up. Sessions will be held in Classroom F every Wednesday from 2:30-3:30 pm. Class will follow the semester schedule, not the enrichment schedule. Students will need a guitar for the class. No sign-up is required - just come to the first class! However, regular attendance and practice daily on assignments is required. Any further questions, e-mail Dave Gamble at agamble1@bak.rr.com
Reminder: Snow and Fog Delays
Tehachapi is well known for sudden changes in weather. VOCS follows the Tehachapi Unified School District for all snow delays or snow days. Also, Kern County Schools Alert Line is an excellent place to visit for the latest updates during inclement weather. However, if there is a school closure, VOCS will not be holding classes on campus. If there is a two hour delay, the first two classes will be canceled and workshops will start at 10:20. Also, if classes are already in session and the snow begins to fall then please feel free to pick up your child. If you have any questions, please contact your Resource Teacher.
December ACORN Newsletter
This Year’s party is planned for Friday, December 18th from 1-3 pm in Room B/C. Join us for crafts, cookies and FUN! Please RSVP to your resource teacher by December 11 with the names and grade levels of the students who will be attending. $5 per student will be collected at the door. Please bring a plate of cookies per family to share. Drinks will be provided. We hope to see you there!

Session 3 Enrichment
Tehachapi Session 3 Enrichment classes are 5 weeks, January 15, 22, 29, February 5, 12. Thank you for your participation during the Online Sign-up. Parents will be notified by phone ONLY if we could not enroll your child due to limited class size. All others will be automatically enrolled in the classes of choice.
To sign-up for open classes after the online sign-up period, please contact directly by e-mail the individual instructors of the classes you wish to enroll. E-mail addresses are on the Contact Us page of this website. Please do not enroll through your resource teacher.
If you decide to sign up your student for Enrichment 3, we encourage you to sign up for all classes for their grade level. Should you decide not to participate in all of the classes, please plan on picking up your student once they have finished a class. Unfortunately, there will not be a place for your student to go if they are not assigned to a class. Also, we ask that when your student signs up for classes they will attend, and participate, in all five sessions. If they are sick, or unable to attend, please email the teacher teaching the class. We look forward to seeing your students in the classes, and if you have any questions please contact your resource teacher.

The Constitution class will be offered during Enrichment Sessions 3 & 4, beginning on Friday, January 15, 2010. This class will prepare your student for the mandatory Constitution testing that Valley Oaks requires for graduation. I'd like to meet with parents only on Wednesday, January 6th, for an informational meeting. It will be held in Classroom B/C at 2:00pm. Student Price:
$20 includes Lift Ticket, Rental of ski or snow board equipment, and 1 hour group lesson.
*if the student has their own equipment the price is still $20.

Lunch:
Participants can bring their own food and drinks, however, a $5 pre-ordered lunch will be available.
The deadline to turn in paperwork and pay is Friday December 18th, 2009. Tehachapi families contact Nickki in classroom A to fill out paperwork and pay fees (cash only).
"Day in Court" Field trip for 6th-8th Graders!
On Friday, January 8, 2010, Valley Oaks 6th-8th grade students are invited to the Mojave Courthouse to observe actual court cases as they are brought to pre-trial. This exciting field trip is sponsored by the Tehachapi Four Seasons Optimist Club and will include an essay contest on the topic, "My Day in Court".
