OCTOBER ACTIVITIES
Friday, October 23rd, will be our first Elementary Award Celebration from
10:15-11:00 a.m. in the old gym. Please come join us as we recognize first
quarter achievements!
**********
Next week is a busy one! Your child will be making a recycled pumpkin during
a Science/Math lesson. Materials you will need to provide are:
One paper towel tube
One dozen Wal-mart plastic bags
Please send these items with your child as soon as possible!

WHAT: Costume Parade/Class Party
WHEN: Friday, October 30th
(Costume changes will be from 2:15-2:25; parade will be following
Red Ribbon Week Assembly, approx. 3:00; party thereafter)
WHERE: Room 113, 4th grade
Remember students are asked to NOT wear costume to school; bring them for
a "quick change". Also, no fake weapons of any kind, gory or ghoulish
costumes/masks, or excessive make-up.
I will be providing root beer floats; if you would like to send snacks or
candy for the party, please do so! Also, if you can come help with costume
changes or setting up/serving the party, let me know!
If your child wishes to not participate, alternate activities are being held
in Mrs. Slothower's room. Just jot a planner note if you would like your
child to go to her room during the parade/party time.

We have many things to celebrate in fourth grade as we reflect on first
quarter!
First, most students have gotten the "hang" of fourth grade. It's not easy
to juggle folders, planners, assignments, textbooks, and all the other things
students do these days. I'm proud to say most students are turning work in
on time, bringing reading logs to class daily, and getting planners signed.
Keep up the good organization!
Secondly, I salute the eight students in my class who met or exceeded their
Accelerated Reader goals first quarter! Two almost got there earning 81-90%;
two met 70-80%; two got 50-60%; and only two with less than 30%! Remember
reading logs and earning AR points are part of the reading grade in my
class! Let's make it our second quarter goal that everyone reaches 100%!
Parents, you can keep track of your child's reading progress by going to the
following website:
https://Hosted193.renlearn.com/372621/HomeConnect/Login.aspx
Here your child logs in just as they do at school, and you can view their
Accelerated Reader points progress. You can also click in the lower right
hand corner to check on books of your own that might be in your child's
reading range and are AR testable! If you don't have Internet access, review
your child's TOPS reports that come home with graded work on Fridays for
similar progress information.
