Program Description: Title I is a federally funded program that assists
students in reading and math skills. Calhan School offers small group
instruction in Kindergarten through 5th grades. Each child has a literacy
plan and objectives and assessments are tailored to each student. This year
4th and 5th grade students will be participating in an exciting new program
called "Language!" We are all working together to meet individual needs of
each student.
Ongoing Activities: Title I students are encouraged to read twenty minutes
every night and participate in the Accelerated Reading Program. Individual
point goals are set for each student each quarter. They will be rewarded
with a free book to keep when they meet their goal. Title I will also be
sponsoring some individual challenges this year. In addition to the
challenges we will sponsor four Family Literacy Activity Nights throughout
the school year. They are tentatively planned for October 9th, November
24th, February 12th and April 16th. All elementary students and parents are
invited to come and have fun.
Homework/Grading Policy: There is no outside homework given through the
Title I program except to practice reading and math skills each night.
Title
I is a supplementary program, and no separate grade is given. I will be
giving grades for students involved in the 4/5 Language program.
Classroom rules and expectations: I collaborate with each classroom teacher
and follow the same rules and expectations so the students have consistency
throughout the day.
Accelerated Reader: There are several books that can be checked out from
the
Title I room for the Accelerated Reader program. Students may check out two
(2) books at a time and return them when they have taken the test.
How to Reach Me: The Title I program relies on parent involvement to help
each student succeed.
I am available between 2:45 and 4:15. You may also leave a message by Voice-
