About The Teacher
Mr. Monks has been with Calhan RJ-1 since 2004 as a teacher, coach, and now High School Principal. Mr. Monks grew up near Limon on his families farm and ranch. Mr. Monks has four sisters, all living in the Limon area. Mr. Monks' wife is a teacher and an avid entomolgist. Mr. Monks has one son who is often seen tagging along with dad at Calhan games and events. Mr. Monks left a career in law enforcement to become a teacher and has never looked back. His hobbies include all types of outdoor activiites, painting on location, and in his studio. Mr. Monks graduated from Limon High School, and received his bachelors degree from the University of Northern Colorado. His Masters degree is in School Administration from Adams State College.

Mission
The Mission of Calhan is to create, through a collaboraive effort, an accepting, supportive, and safe learning environment that encouragesgrwoth in each individual. Our purpose is to promote high standards of educational acheivement and social responsibility adn to develop lifelong learners with the skills, the knowledge, and the understanding that are necessary to succeed in the twenty-first century. This mission will be accomplished in part through the Board of Eduaction priorities developed through a collaborative Strategic Planning Process. 1. To Maximize Student Learning 2.
