protons = the atomic numberBack to Top
electrons are almost as easy as protons. If there is NO + or - behind the chemical sybol. The element is NEUTRAL. so the electrons are equal to the protons. If there is a PLUS + behind the sybol, the element is POSITIVE, that means it has lost 1 electron (negative charge) for each +. If it is -, it has gained 1 electron for each - symbol. Example 1 F-, F normally has 9 electron, with the - it now has 10. EXAMPLE 2 Mg ++ Mg normally has 12 electron, with 2 +, that means it has lost 2 electrons, so there are now 10Back to Top
Take the ATOMIC MASS and subtract from it the atomic number, that is the neutrons. Neutrons = protons + neutronsBack to Top
noBack to Top
a charged atom. has gained or lost e-'sBack to Top
the mass on the PTE is an n average, Isotopes are EXACT. so the neutrons will be different,Back to Top
why is there so much math in the physics unit?
To best understand some concepts of physics, you need to see the math that proves it. For example Kinetic and potential energy in a systemBack to Top
Are the grade sheets worth points
YES. 5 per week.Back to Top
These are mini finals that are mandated by the district.Back to Top
How can my student Test Out of freshman science?
1st- pass the physics and chemistry essintials tests with 80% or above 2nd--earn my recommendation 3rd-- Pass the test the high school will give those students who meet standards 1 and 2 with a 80% IF A STUDENT MEETS OPTIONS 1 AND 2, BUT FAILS 3, THEY CAN STILL TEST OUT WITH A ADVANCED SCIENCE CSAP SCORE.Back to Top
Do they earn HS credits if they test out
NOBack to Top
what is the advantage of testing out?
This will put the student on a more advanced science track that will help prepare them for college.Back to Top
Will it hurt my childs chances in college if they do not test out?
NO. they will still need at least THREE science credits at the high school. Integrated science would be one of them. NOTE MCHS graduation criteria say they only need 2 science credits. State colleges in Colorado require 3 HS science credits.Back to Top
What is the purpose of the mousetrap car?
The mousetrap car meets school district standard 1. This is the standard on scientific design and experimentation. Students will need to build a car to the standards set forth and meet the performance criteria. This project is equal to a test grade. It also is extremely fun for the kids and I DO NOT MIND IF PARENTS AND KIDS WORK TOGETHER>Back to Top
