Grading

Students are first and foremost expected to achieve the essential standards
for 7th grade science.
Achievement of the standards will be assessed primarily through tests,
quizzes, labs and projects. Quizzes will be given every Friday. Students may
take quizzes as many times as they like to pass with a score of 75%. Retakes
may be done on Tuesday and Thursday at lunch.

ONLY the first attempt at a quiz can earn a score of better than 75%. All
ensuing passing scores will be recorded at 75% of the available points.
Because of this, it is always in the student's best interest to give
a quiz all of his/her effort the first time.

Homework is a way to practice what was done in class, prepare for class the
following day, and practice for tests and quizzes. For this reason I will
most often give homework an effort grade - complete or incomplete. We will
go over homework assignments in class, and students are expected to correct
mistakes as we go. I will periodically collect homework unannounced for a
non-effort grade to ensure that students are trying on all assignments.

Students will write several reflections a week over class material.
Reflection requirements can be found in the ISN section.

There will be a warm up problem on the board each day as students come into
class. Students are expected to begin this as soon as the bell rings and
will have limited time to finish the problem. Warm ups are collected with
ISNs.

Students will be given a grade sheet at the beginning of each week. It will
break the student's current grade into individual assignments so the student
will know what is missing and what areas need work.

Grades are weighted as follows:

40% Tests/Quizzes
30% Homework
20% Reflections
10% Warm Ups
