FAQFrequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
How often do the kids go to physical education class? First, second, third and fourth grade students have physical education four times a week. Third and fourth grade classes have physical education in the morning and first and second graders receive their PE instruction during the afternoon. Kindergarten classes have physical education twice a week according to their AM and PM class schedule. All physical education classes are 25 minutes long. Are tennis shoes/gym shoes required to participate? Definitely yes! I remind the kids that proper footwear adds to their success during their performance and participation in physical education. It is an important safety issue, too. IMPORTANT: If your child is without tennis shoes, please take advantage of our "RENEW a Shoe Program". I collect outgrown shoes from our student body, clean them up, put in new shoelaces if needed, and pass them on to students without tennis shoes. All of our students are encouraged to take advantage of the program and find a pair that fits them. What if my child has an illness or injury and cannot participate in PE? Sometimes students are well enough to come to school but are not up to physical challenges that we present during physical education class. If your child has a soreness, injury or illness and you desire that they don't participate in gym until they are better, please send a note with a brief explanation. I firmly believe teacher/parent communication is the key to student success. What are is your philosophy for physical education? First, I try to ensure that activities spiral toward an end product or final outcome. To accomplish this we isolate individual skills and work on a step by step progression. We offer a wide variety of activities and games that involve skills such as catching, throwing, kicking and running. I encourage them to use cooperative strategies with their teammates. Highlights of the year include our cross country races, the swimming program at the MCHS pool, Speedstacking competitions, The Presidential Fitness Challenge, our Jump for Heart program and finally, our end of the year event...Field Day!
