FAQFrequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
What can my child do to improve their background knowledge of Math? Many of the basic "Math" skills like adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing can ALWAYS use practice. Flash cards and or computer software is usually best and should be worked on 2-3 times a week depending on where your child's skills are. Should I allow may child to use a calculator on Math Mate? No, I would rather have the students use what is between their ears and then CHECK their answers on a calculator afterwards. Often calculators can be harmful and hinder their growth in basic computations. Calculators are not allowed on their Math Mate Tests in the classroom either. What homework will my child have on a regular basis? Math Mate, or other basic skills practice. Vocabulary, they are given a list every unit. A.C.E. Questions. Your child SHOULD be working on something "Math" related every night from scheduled homework, corrections to additional practice on their own. Every Wednesday, 99% of the time. What is the best way to contact the teacher? E-mail is awesome and very fast. How can I increase my knowledge in Math? Corrections can be made on any assignment except for Investigations and ACE Questions. Corrections must be turned on a separate piece of paper stapled to the original within a week of receiving the graded paper and can earn up to a proficient score. Assignments that were NEVER turned in when originally due may NOT be corrected. How can I work extra in the Math Lab? Ask for a pass before/after school. Many times during lunch the lab is also open. |
