Fifth Grade General Music Class
Fifth Grade General Music Class
PPCS fifth grade students attend a general music class three times weekly. Each session is 35 minutes. Students participate in a variety of musical activities based on national standards designed to develop music skills. Students will sing, play boomwhackers, and orff instruments. Other lessons will include learning about the lives and music of select composers. The majority of class time will be spent developing music skills, conceptual understanding, and a love of music. Students will perform in several concerts throughout the year.
Okay, but what do we REALLY D0? · We play games, lots of games. Boomwhacker relay races, Jeopardy, Baseball Music, Instrument Bingo, Jingo, Mallet Madness, Freeze/Move, Name That Tune, Musical Squares, and more. · We listen to music, move to music, sing silly songs and not-so-silly songs, make music, and read music. Together! · We experience different styles of music and find that some of us like rock and some of us like Bach. Yes, Bach. · We discover which composers had a sense of humor and played tricks on the audience. · We praise God with our music.
· We learn to tell the difference between a flute and an oboe. · We learn to love music!
