Mrs. Carlile's Music Class at Pikes Peak Christian School |
Middle School Choral Arts
Welcome to PPCS Middle School Choral Arts ! This class consists of students in grades 6-8 and meets daily from 12:45-1:33 in the music room and the auditorium.
The 10/26 Black Forest Vocal Clinic at Colorado Springs School was a huge success for our M/S and H/S students. Thank you, Tammy Whiting and Amy Moss for driving and helping out with food.
Our M/S - H/S Christmas Concert is scheduled for December 3 at 7:00 p.m. Students should arrive at 6:30 p.m. Dress is still TBD.
Choral Arts is a one semester class. Instruction will stress the basics of good singing as we develop our chorus. Students can expect to sing a variety of musical styles. There will be opportunities for solo and ensemble performances. Music fundamentals are introduced and reviewed on a daily basis. Another aspect of our Choral Arts class involves drama and theatre. We use improv games and acting exercises that require quick thinking and focus to create situations, characters, and scenes. We will learn the elements involved in staging a musical from the auditiion process to the curtain call.
Grades are based upon: 1. Daily Behavior and Participation: (60%) Each student receives a daily behavior and participation score of 10 points that begins each day as an "A". Students will receive a lesser daily score of 9 and below for tardiness, distracting others, coming to class without materials, not meeting deadline for music memorization, poor effort, and yes, poor posture.
2. Performances: (40%) This is a performing arts class and performances are mandatory. All music is memorized. Dates are announced far enough in advance so students and families can clear schedules for our concerts. Students may be excused for illness or death in the family with a written note from parents. Dress for Chapel and BFVC (more details coming) are dark pants, white shirt or blouse, and dark shoes for boys and girls. Boys will wear a tie.
Suggestions maintaining the daily "A" :
1. Be seated when bell rings with materials 2. Don't slouch 3. Watch Mrs. Carlile 4. Talk only when allowed 5. Ask questions when you don't understand 6. Participate in class and performances 7. Memorize music and lines by deadline
