I am thrilled to be at Platte River Academy again this year! This is my
sixth year here. PRA is a great community with quality families, students,
parents and administrators. I am very excited to get to know your children
and watch their growth.
I loved being a full time mom but once the kids were gone to school, I
realized I needed something more and somewhere to give to my community. I was
the Instructional Aide for Mr. Duque and Mrs. Chamberlin for three years,
then spent two years as a full time teacher and a full time student in the
Teacher in Residence program through Metro State working on my teacher's
license. It was a thrill to receive my initial license in the mail this
summer and to be finished with college (again!). My educational background
started right here in Denver (I am a 4th generation native of Denver)
graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School. My undergraduate degree is from
The Colorado College, in Colo. Springs and my major was History. I loved
European history but also enjoyed Russian, Asian and African History. Along
with history I added Art History, Science, Literature and Music to round it
out. Our Core Knowledge curriculum is a perfect fit for my education.
My husband, Rick, works out of our home and we have three children, all of
whom attended, or are currently attending PRA. A bit about each of them:
Justin just graduated from Arapahoe High School and is headed off to
University of California, Berkeley, to play baseball and study business.
Garrett is a junior at Arapahoe High School, plays baseball and is looking
forward to Link Crew and another big year! Whitney, 7th grader at PRA is
active in choir, piano and volleyball. We have been very pleased with their
progress and they have a good foundation for the future.
I have found the world to be a fascinating place and learning never ends. My
hope for your children is to engender in them a love to explore and the
courage to wonder. The sky is the limit... So here we go...looking forward
to a great year!
To see growth in each child's understanding of the basics of math, reading,
writing, science and social studies, establishing a strong structure for
their future education. Inspire them to learn, seek, question, wonder
and not be afraid to look for the answers.
