1st Grade Homework: Read your decodable books and "date them." Do a "Give Me Five" retell on one of the decodables. Practice your flashcards/ sight words. Please put the date on each decodable that your child reads to you. Circle the date, if they are fluent. If this book needs more practice, just write the date. The decodables need to be saved. A shoebox or other organizer will be helpful to keep track of the large number of 1st Grade decodables. Flashcards and Word Lists are included in your homework bag. This exercise will help build fluency in your child's reading. (See attached sheet for suggestions on how to play games with the flashcards). Fluency Passages will be added to your homework packet in January. The goal of these exercises will be to increase your child's fluency and accuracy. These exercises have been shown to help students perform better on all kinds of tests. Please continue to fill in the What Did You Do? column!
