At SSHS, there is a career center staffed by a career counselor, Danica Moss, who will work with students and their parents in developing an individual career and academic plan (ICAP).

Spending time on www.collegeincolorado.org will benefit every student, no matter where they are at in their post-secondary planning. A brief interest inventory can point to one of six career interest areas and possibly a pathway within that interest area. Have you created a CollegeinColorado.org account?     

Click on CREATE AN ACCOUNT in the top right corner.  

Fill in the blanks on the form.          

 Pay attention to the required format for your answers…

1. DATE OF BIRTH: use 4 numbers for your birth year (ex: 1992)
2. E-MAIL:  If you don’t have an email address or want to make a new one for college purposes, click in the box below the email blank so College in Colorado can create an email address for you.
3. SCHOOL ATTENDING: Click on Find and then S to find Steamboat Springs High School.
4. GRADUATION YEAR: use 4 numbers for your graduation year (ex: 2011)
5. HOW DID YOU HEAR ABOUT THIS SITE?  Guidance Counselor
6. USERNAME = birth year, birth month, and last nameExample: Michael Jordan= 196302jordan
7. PASSWORD = same as you computer password
8. QUESTION = Type in a question you know the answer to, such as: What’s your mom’s name?  What’s your middle name?  Where were you born?
9. ANSWER = Type the answer to the question you entered.
10. CHOICES PORTFOLIO = leave the mark next to “Create a Choices portfolio now”·       
11.   Click on SUBMIT .

Several careers opportunities within those pathways can be explored and looking at the necessary training and / or education levels needed to achieve the student's goal. If a work internship or job shadowing situation is wanted, she will help place the student.

Mrs. Moss will help the student narrow down the choices before an actual application is made. Advice on resumes, applications, essays are also available.
