The Science Olympiad is a competition of young scientists who work
individually and in small groups in activities which requires working
knowledge in the sciences. Physics, biology, ecology, botony, engineering,
astronomy, zoology, and other disciplines are represented in 23 events.
Teams are limited to 15 students. Our goal is to provide an enriching
experience in the sciences for those students who have the desire, drive,
time, and perserverence. Eighth grade students who chose to prepare and
compete in the Science Olympiad will receive credit for science class. The
Science Olympiad curriculum meets and/or exceeds the Colorado State
Standards for the Sciences.
After forming the team in October, we will be meeting on Tuesdays and
Thursdays after school to prepare for the Regional Events scheduled for
March. Any parents interested in volunteering time as a coach or materials?
Call me at 871-3555 and express your interest! Thanks!Meeting times are
posted here after each meeting. After the team has solidified, scheduled
times will be posted. This is a recognized "gifted and talented" program
for those children who have a deep interest and love for science. Those
eighth graders who are accepted to the team will not be required to present
a science project. Instead, they will recieve a grade (and extra credit)
for preparing and competing in the Regional events.
Whhooowhooo...our team has done well enough to garner a 6th place finish in
the Regional competition! Congratulations to Wil Horner and David Kelly who
won a 1st place Gold Medal for their event "Solar System." Jeff Sperry and
Dustin Atkins got a 2nd place Silver Medal for "Ecology," and Arik Funke
received a 3rd prize medal for "Oceanography." Nicely done, Olympians!
