Welcome Message

Welcome to all students, parents, community members and staff!

As we begin the upcoming school year I would like for us all to keep a few
things in mind. A school is never as good as its educational surroundings.
Steamboat Springs Middle School success is directly related to the community
of which it is a part.

This goes way beyond anything monetary (which has been substantial). When we
as a community set high standards for our students, and back up the means in
which to achieve those standards, then the district and community will be
successful.

It is imperative that we practice procedures, in the classroom as well as at
home, which research says is best. It is one of our goals, as a staff, to
keep up-to-date on what those practices are. To help us all in that regard,
we need to communicate with one another.

Communication is a two-way street we all need to travel on to make sure we
arrive at our destination, the production of respectful and responsible
members of our community; members that know when to practice safety and self-
control.

From our end, we will work harder than ever on addressing individual
student’s needs. The new "intervention" period SSMS has enacted is one such
way to accomplish this goal. Our staff is to be commended for coming up with
the intervention period and they look forward to fully implementing it. (If
you are unclear as to what is meant by intervention time, we will share it
with you at “Back to
School night”.)

As I enter my 28th year teaching in Steamboat Springs, I remain as excited
as I was when I first arrived. Thank you all for making this such a great
place to be.
