| Each spring, Steamboat Springs Middle School begins to orient fifth grade
students at Soda Creek and Strawberry Park Elementary Schools to sixth
grade. The children are invited to the middle school for lunch, hosted by
Peer Helpers, the parents are welcomed at several sessions by the principals
and counselor, and the students are visited by middle school staff during the
last days of school. Our goal is to familiarize fifth grade students and
their parents with our school, to answer any questions, and to reduce anxiety
about the upcoming transition. Community members with fifth grade students
enrolled in private schools or home school are invited to participate. The
transition schedule is posted below:
May 1 "Informal Welcome to SSMS" by Tim Bishop, Principal, Jerry Buelter,
Asst. Principal, and Margi Briggs-Casson, Counselor
7:00-8:00 Soda Creek Elementary
For all parents of 5th grade students in District
May 7-ll 5th graders visit Middle School with their classes for lunch on one
of these days.
May 15 6th Grade Orientation Night for parents and 5th grade students
Middle School Cafetorium
7:00 - Information Meeting
7:30 - Tour of building
May 24&25 Middle School principals and counselors visit 5th grade classrooms
to practice combination locks and to answer any remaining student
questions.
August 24 Locker Party
August 27 First Day of 6th Grade
