Percussion Ensemble

The focus of this ensemble is learning to read and perform a variety of music. Students are expected to participate in the practice and performance of each of the styles of music the teacher introduces, including but not limited to corps style, classical traditions, folk, jazz, and rock. Students are also expected to practice each of the 3 percussion disciplines: snare, mallets, and timpani. An introduction to set drumming may be given as time allows. All percussionists will need to acquire a set of concert snare sticks, marching snare sticks, and hard rubber mallets for the xylophone. A stick bag is recommended, but not required.

Essential Elements 2000 and Haskall Harr Drum Method are our texts, accompanied by scores appropriate to the ensembles combined playing abilities. In addition, this group will be asked to accompany the wind ensemble and orchestra as needed.
