Counseling – Mindy Larson

SENIORS

The majority of VCHS seniors have college applications submitted and are in the “waiting to hear” mode.  For those who have yet to complete applications, many universities have a December 15th deadline for fall admissions and paperwork should be in progress for these schools.  Students are encouraged to stop in to see me as soon as possible so that I can aide the process.

Congratulations to these seniors who have been accepted at the following colleges….so far!

*       Corey Seeman – Montana State UniversityBozeman

*       Steil Beagley – Azusa Pacific University

*       Caroline Carlson – Tulane University

*       Beri Dwyer – Montana State University

*       Kira Geddes – Northern Arizona University

*       Ian Hamina – Montana State University

*       Kieran Hurtt – Bethany College, Benedictine College, Avila University, Carroll College

*       Devon Wright – Southern Methodist University

JUNIORS: PSAT scores will be in the second week of December and the practice ACT tests taken in September have been scored.  Results for these tests will be available for parents to pick up from me by appointment starting in January with follow up on each individual student’s test results.  I want to talk parents and students through what these test results mean and answer any questions that arise. Junior college planning classes will begin in January to get students ready for the college application process that is just around the corner.  Also starting in January will be ACT prep Fridays of which every Friday during 3rd quarter our teachers will be focusing on ACT prep drills and practice during student advisement to help students improve ACT scores before taking the real deal in April.  Remember, all juniors are expected to take their ACT and SAT in the spring of 2010 if they haven’t already taken it for the first time.

SOPHOMORES:  Scores for both the PSAT and the PLAN tests will be made available to parents personally to pick up from me during a January Sophomore Parent Meeting Wednesday, January 13th at 7pm in the student commons.  I will meet with students and parents about scores, SAT and ACT readiness, college majors, and career options based on the “My Road” inventory students took their freshman year.  Starting in January, every Friday during 3rd quarter our teachers will be focusing on ACT prep drills and practice during student advisement to help students improve test scores for the ACT and SAT their junior year.

FRESHMEN:  EXPLORE results are in and will be mailed out the first week of December.  Parents please look over your student’s scores and, if there are any questions or concerns, contact me to set up an appointment to go over your students’ results.  As with the sophomores and juniors, teachers will be working with freshmen starting in January every Friday during 3rd quarter focusing on ACT prep drills and practice during student advisement to help students improve next year’s PLAN and, eventually, ACT results.
