Principal’s Message

The staff at Steamboat Springs Middle School is excited to start the 2009-10 school year. Our custodians and maintenance staff have done an amazing job preparing the school and grounds for our students. While we initially believed that the poor economy might result in families leaving Steamboat Springs and therefore reducing our enrollment numbers, the exact opposite has occurred. We expect to top 500 students this school year. That is a gain of over 25 students from last year. In order to meet the demands of these high numbers, we were allowed to hire three additional teachers.
On a celebratory note, I would like to congratulate our staff and students from last year for all of their hard work and dedication to academics. Steamboat Springs Middle School was recently acknowledged as one of twenty middle schools in the entire state of Colorado as a High Achieving School. This recognition was received due to the high academic growth of our students as measured by the Colorado Department of Education. We are very proud of the kudos given by the Department of Education to our school the past several years. This achievement is a direct reflection of the commitment from staff, hard work from students, support from our community and endless volunteer involvement from our parents.
Please call the main office or myself if you have any questions or comments as we begin the school year. We are here to serve you and your students. I have no doubt that this will be a great year.
