Geography & Literacy
2009 - 2010
Reading Logs:
Students are responsible for reading five of seven nights for at least 20
minutes. Parent signature is required for book approval and for verification
of reading . There is always a reading connection piece on the back of the
log. Reading homework is due each Tuesday.
Weekly Reading Blog:
This is a second semester assignment and replaces the weekly reading log.
Students respond to questions about their reading on my blog. Prompts are
posted each Tuesday. Students will not only respond to the prompt of the
week but also respond at least once to their classmates. Students can access
the blog from my website.
Writing Assignment:
They are assigned bi-weekly. The assignment is explained and started (plan /
rough draft)in class. The revision and final draft steps should completed for
homework. I require final drafts to be word-processed. The writing is always
set up in a RAFT format. (R=Role A=Audience F=Format T=Topic S=Strong Verb)
Geography Atlas assignments:
They are assigned more randomly. The Nystrom World Atlas is needed to
complete assignments. These assignments are typically started in class and
then sent home for homework.
Geography vocabulary:
The word list is 5-10 words on a bi-monthly or monthly basis. Vocabulary
sheets are completed in class. Vocabulary assessments (matching, crossword
puzzles, Cloze exercises) will be given periodically.
